Brian Halligan

Brian HalliganBrian was born in 1980 and grew up in Artane, Dublin, where he attended St. Fiachras’ National School and then Sutton Park Secondary School. He moved to Malahide where he now lives.

Brian has painted all his life and received great enthusiasm & interest in his artwork throughout his school years. He attended IADT and received a Certificate in Visual Education.

Brian travelled to New York to develop his skills as a painter. Receiving support and interest from New York patrons such as Jim Furlong, director of Hudson Guild Gallery, “… (I) thought to myself, ‘there’s a painter’…” and Elaine Welcher PD, “…great to see someone action painting: New York the way it should be…”

He was also a subject in a documentary on the ‘14th Street Painters’, a long established New York artists' studio of which Brian is a member.

He returned to Ireland in October 2004 to pursue his art in his home country, adapting the life lessons leant in NYC.

His art is reflective of his own character. His style is autobiographical - bold, subtle, confident, deep, bright, dark, impatient, layered, difficult to categorise, but distinctively Brian Halligan.
